Let’s face the facts: Big Thief is today the most important American rock group, and this fifth album in seven years is a tour de force of 20 famous songs stretching over 80 minutes. At the head of the quartet, the author-composer-singer-guitarist Adrianne Lenker, a singular voice that digests a century of American folk to make it avant-garde and exciting, passing (at the beginning of the album) from a folk song -experimental rock like Time Escaping to a feverish country flight on the violin like spud infinity or the unforgettable Red Moon, in the middle of the album. What a pen this Lenker is, what a rough and authentic voice! Throughout this musically torn album, between tradition and modernity, warm and dynamic songs that fall just in time in the heart of our winter. Produced by drummer James Krivchenia, this album will also delight audiophiles: the meticulous sound recordings give the illusion that the band is playing in our living room, while the amazing sound effects give depth to the songs. Big Thief will perform at the Olympia Theater on April 18.
