Dragon Ball jumps to the top of the North American box office

(Los Angeles) The Animated Movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Herothe 21e feature film of the Japanese saga, took control of the North American box office this weekend for its release, according to estimates on Sunday from the specialized firm Exhibitor Relations.

The film grossed an estimated $20.1 million between Friday and Sunday, far ahead of the weekend’s other release, Beast.

“This is yet another remarkable release for Crunchyroll,” the film’s US distributor 95% controlled by Sony, noted David Gross, analyst at Franchise Entertainment Research.

With 11.6 million over the weekend, Beastfrom Universal Studios, comes second, an “average” debut […] for an action movie starring an animal,” added David Gross.

The animal in question is a huge lion chasing a widower (Idris Elba) and his daughters on a safari.

Another action movie, Bullet Train, which had been dominating the box office for two weeks, came third with 8 million over the weekend. Brad Pitt plays one of seven hitmen who try to kill each other on a high-speed train between Tokyo and Kyoto.

Top Gun: Maverick manages to hold on to fourth place, thirteen weeks after its release, with another $5.9 million. Following Top Gunstill with Tom Cruise, has already won a total of 683 million in North America and 703 million in the rest of the world.

The animated movie DC League of Super Petswith the voices of Muriel Robin and the singer Soprano in French in particular, comes in fifth position with 5.8 million receipts.
