The Dr Luc Boileau will be officially named director of public health for Quebec on Thursday, six months after being called upon to replace his predecessor, Dr.r Horacio Arruda.

The Council of Ministers confirmed on Wednesday that the Dr Boileau will officially inherit the functions of assistant deputy minister at the Ministry of Health and Social Services and national director of public health.
Luc Boileau was appointed to these positions on an interim basis on January 12, to replace Dr.r Arruda who had taken Quebec by surprise by announcing his resignation in the midst of the Omicron wave of COVID-19.
At the time, Prime Minister François Legault was hesitant to reiterate his confidence in the Dr Arruda, and later explained that a change in the government’s way of communicating was needed, after nearly two years of the pandemic.
Before taking up the post of National Director of Public Health, Dr.r Boileau was the head of the National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS), which made recommendations throughout the pandemic.
