The bones of little Émile, who disappeared in July 2023, have been found. Monday April 1, investigators sealed off the hamlet of Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) in order to deploy a major search system there.

In the area where the bones of little Émile were found, investigators are hard at work, at the bottom of a valley in rugged terrain that is particularly difficult to access. So that no clue escapes them, a team of drone pilots flies over the scene. The objective is to reconstruct a digital version of the scene as it existed. A dog brigade, anthropologists, judicial investigators and criminal identification technicians were placed under the direction of a coordinator.

Determine the causes and circumstances of death

The child’s skull is already being analyzed at the scientific laboratory of the gendarmerie, in the Paris region. It will be modeled in search of the slightest clue as to the causes of death. Anthropologists are analyzing the vegetation and soil where the child’s bones were found. In particular, they will have to determine whether his body was moved. Throughout the week, around a hundred gendarmes are expected to remain on site for searches. The objective of the new investigation is to find the causes and circumstances of the death of little Émile.
