Dozens of bikes offered to deserving young people in Montreal

Sun Youth donated 80 new bikes to as many deserving young Montrealers on Saturday at Michel Normandin Arena. These have distinguished themselves by their community involvement or for having overcome adversity.

Sevhan Sadri also won a new frame. He showed composure by calling the emergency services when his father suffered a heart attack in November.

Meritorious deeds are “really varied,” says Ann St Arnaud of Sun Youth. “Some are going to be involved with their peers at school, with the student newspaper, they will volunteer in the community […] others who saved an elderly neighbor who was in bad shape. »

A hundred bikes will be donated this year, for a total of 2,000 for 38 years, according to Mme Saint-Arnaud. These annual donations are made possible thanks to the financial support of the businessman and philanthropist, Avrum (Avi) Morrow, who died in 2019, who supported this program under the pseudonym of Monsieur Vélo for all these years. With the support of his family, the distribution continues and now bears his name.
