(Montreal) An arson attack caused heavy damage to a commercial building in downtown Montreal on Wednesday morning, without causing any injuries.
No arrests had been reported by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) at daybreak.
Police reported that a call made around 4:20 a.m. to the 911 emergency call center led firefighters to the burning building on Guy Street, near the intersection of René-Lévesque Boulevard West.
In the rubble, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SSIM) later found what they believed to be an incendiary object. They therefore forwarded the investigation to the SPVM arson squad.
A security perimeter has been erected, which could affect morning traffic in this area of downtown.
