According to our sources, the suspect is Fabio Puglisi, an individual known to the police suffering from mental health problems. In the past, he was found not criminally responsible for his actions twice due to his condition.

Fabio Puglisi, 44, is the suspect in the double murder that occurred Thursday morning in an apartment building on rue Émile-Bouchard, in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Shortly before noon, emergency services were called to the sixth floor of a condo building located on rue Émile-Bouchard. When they arrived, they discovered the bodies of two women, aged 53 and 68.

One of them had injuries so serious that it was difficult to identify her. They were allegedly stabbed to death. Another 69-year-old woman was also attacked. However, we would no longer fear for our lives.

The building where the drama played out was built in 2020 and contains 56 rental condominiums.

According to our information, one of the victims is the suspect’s mother, with whom he lived in one of the units. The other two would be neighbors.

Since before the holidays

Puglisi, suffering from minor injuries, was arrested at the scene.

“I heard noise in the corridor. “Leave your hands on the ground, leave your hands on the ground.” Suddenly, I saw a bunch of police cars arriving, four ambulances, first responders. It’s crazy, it’s like a real suspense film,” explained a neighbor who preferred not to give her name.

The forty-year-old was taken to a hospital and was to be questioned by investigators of crimes against the person.

At least two transports to hospital were necessary, including for the suspect, who suffered minor injuries.

“This is a gentleman who already had problems just before the holidays. I was told that he [souffrait de problèmes de santé mentale] and that he had not taken his medication. Since then, the world was afraid of him, there were some who no longer even wanted to enter the elevator with him.

Indeed, according to sources close to Puglisi, he was hospitalized in November, but was quickly released from the hospital because the staff considered that he did not represent a danger. His state of health worried those close to him, but his mother wanted to stay by his side.

Pure unknown

On November 16, Puglisi allegedly attacked for no reason a woman who was in front of her residence, located approximately 500 meters from the condo tower where the bloody murders were committed on Thursday.

“We didn’t know this guy, we had never seen him before,” the woman’s husband told Newspaper. Puglisi was formally charged in this case last Friday. He was due to return to court on March 26 for further proceedings.

Fake Riopelle

This is not the suspect’s first experience with the justice system. In 2018, he was charged in a fraud case after selling a fake Riopelle on Kijiji. Then, in 2012, he was charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving and hit-and-run.

In both cases, he was found not criminally responsible.

During his last hearing before the Mental Disorders Review Commission (CETM), in 2020, it was judged that “the accused, due to his mental state, no longer represents a significant risk to the safety of the public”. He was then released without any conditions.

His condition seemed stable, mainly thanks to the family support he received. Puglisi had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and manic syndrome with psychotic features. His condition often causes him to hallucinate and makes him paranoid, a psychiatrist told the Commission.

Puglisi will appear tomorrow at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse, where he is expected to face two counts of murder.
