The police were alerted around 9:30 p.m. to two lifeless bodies inside a residence located on avenue des Érables, according to the Montreal Police Service.

The Urgences-santé doctor confirmed on the spot the death of the two victims stabbed to death, a 60-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman.

According to preliminary information, it is a family conflict which would have degenerated to lead to this double homicide, indicated Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the SPVM.

A 29-year-old suspect was arrested by the police and was to be met during the night by investigators from the SPVM major crimes section.

A security perimeter was erected on avenue des Érables to protect the scene and allow investigators on site to try to untangle the skein of this family drama.

This is the 30th and 31st homicides to occur on the territory of Montreal since the beginning of the year, according to an official report from the SPVM.
