Dott, a Franco-Dutch company co-founded by Maxim Romain, offers self-service scooters and electric bikes. It is already present in 45 cities in Europe, and soon in Grenoble! In fact, it was this brand that won the call for demonstrations by the Syndicat Mixte des Mobilités de l’Air Grenoble (SMMAG) in April. It is therefore Dott scooters and electric bikes that will replace Tier scooters and Pony bikes from July 1st.
A similar operation
Just like the old scooters, you will have to download the application on your smartphone to be able to use the service. “Thanks to the application, you scan the QR code, and this unlocks the scooter or the bike. It only takes few seconds“, explains Maxim Romain during the presentation of the service, Friday June 3. Were present the president of the Métropole Christophe Ferrari, the mayor of La Tonche, Bertrand Spindler, who studied all the application files and the president of the SMMAG, Sylvain Laval.
“We had made a differentiated bid for scooters and e-bikes, but Dott won both. The company was able to convince us by the quality of the service offered“, explains Sylvain Laval. Dott will therefore deploy 2,500 scooters and 2,500 bicycles, i.e. twice as many scooters and 10 times as many bicycles as before. The first models will arrive on July 1 in Grenoble, the university campus, Inovallée Meylan and Montbonnot and will be gradually deployed in the 13 other municipalities remaining during the summer (Corenc, Echirolles, Eybens, Fontaine, Gières, La Tronche, Le Pont-de-Claix, Poisat, Saint-Egrève, Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux, Sassenage, Seyssinet-Pariset and Seyssins)
Parking and security
Like Tier, scooters will be restricted in pedestrian areas: ” We limit the speeds of our scooters to 10 kilometers per hour“, confirms Maxim Romain. Same thing for bicycles, which will be limited to 25 kilometers per hour.
Regarding parking, the principle is similar to the service previously offered. You will have to park your scooter on the spaces provided for this purpose. “Scooters and bicycles are geotagged, and if they are not returned to the parking spaces, this may result in a fine“, recalls Christophe Ferrari, the president of the Metropolis. This clause was already provided for the use of Tier scooters, but not always respected. “Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for the behavior of users, even if we do everything to prevent risks and raise awareness.“, concedes Maxim Romain. Awareness campaigns and the distribution of small guides are also planned before the implementation of the service.
Suitable for all
Another spearhead of the Dott business is inclusion: “Our scooters are ecological and social“, recalls Maxim Romain. Thus, the jobs created by the company in the region will all be permanent contracts and the employees will be shareholders. On the user side, a solidarity rate will be offered, for the price of €9.99 per month. “It will be established on the same criteria as for public transport“, assures Maxim Romain. “In addition, we offer rates per minute for occasional journeys, but also monthly and annual subscriptions, to benefit the biggest users.“
Dott scooters and electric bikes are also intended to be accessible: pictograms have been installed for people with dyslexia, the application is available in around ten languages… and above all, the scooters are adaptable to people with reduced mobility. Indeed, Dott has partnered with the company Omni to offer people in wheelchairs scooters that can be attached to the chair, all at the price of 35€ per month.
