Dorval | New spill in Bouchard stream

A new oil spill occurred in Bouchard Creek in Dorval, but the contaminants released did not come from Montreal-Trudeau airport this time.

The incident is said to have occurred on December 29 “near a mechanical garage for heavy trucks”, indicated to The Press the Environment Department of the City of Montreal, stating that it was notified on December 30 by the City of Dorval.

Due to an accident and the rain that fell that day, “a container containing motor oil overflowed and the contents reached the nearest sump”, explained Kim Nantais, spokesperson for the City of Montreal.

Since the sanitary and storm sewers are separated at this location, “the contamination ended up in Bouchard Creek,” she said.

The small stream has its source north of the airport, which it crosses in a buried pipe before resurfacing southeast of the runways, and runs through the city of Dorval to finally flow into the river at the height of the Millennium Park.

A specialized company has been mandated to carry out the cleaning and decontamination of the site and the stream, in collaboration with the City of Dorval, also indicated Mr.me Nantes.

This spill into Bouchard Creek occurred three weeks after another, on December 6, from land belonging to Aéroports de Montréal.
