Dordogne students without a French teacher since the start of the school year, parents launch a petition

Since the start of the school year, Nora, a student in 5th grade at the Arnaut Daniel de Ribérac school complex, has not had a French teacher. And his mother Melanie is fed up. “For example this week, four hours of French were not done. Just for this week. It’s starting to get long, then we tell ourselves that it’s going to have to be caught up. We don’t know what’s going to happen after, and it’s almost a quarter that is lost”, sighs the mother. According to the parents, there is a lack of a French teacher in two classes of 5th, and two classes of second. The parents want it to move, they launched an online petition
.

Other teachers provide certain courses

Contacted, the management of the establishment did not respond to our requests. According to the parents, she is doing everything to find a solution, but so far, there is no progress. Other French teachers give some lessons to the students to make up for a littlebut for Mélanie, it’s not enough. “Everything is very different. It’s never the same teacher so there’s no follow-up. And French is super important!”, she says. One of the mums had fun counting, and of the 32 hours of French planned since the beginning of the year, only half have been provided according to her.

A letter to the rector

The parents want to alert the rectorate. Friday, the day of the holidays, the parents’ federation sent a letter to the rectorattaching the petition. “On September 1, a teacher was promised in front of each class and today we don’t have it. We never have a full pool of teachers at the start of the school year. But the solution so far was found. And quite quickly. There, we are at the All Saints holidays, and there is still no solution. We have the impression of being left behind. Because we are a rural high school “regrets Delphine, member of the FCPE.

The families therefore want the situation to move forward, and if nothing is done, they threaten to file a complaint. Contacted, the Academy indicates to France Blue Perigord that “the services of the rectorate have taken note of the difficulties encountered in the school complex of Ribérac, and are actively mobilizing in order to propose solutions as quickly as possible guaranteeing the pupils the follow-up of the courses in the best conditions”.
