Dordogne firefighters recover a body in the Vézère

Residents alerted the fire department. A body was found this Friday noon, in the town of Montignac-Lascaux, as revealed by our colleagues from Sud Ouest. From the Montignac bridge, residents saw the body pass in the Vézère. They immediately alerted the fire department. Rescuers mobilized two boats to retrieve the body. L’operation took more than two hours, until 2:30 p.m. An operation “impressive” according to the mayor of Montignac, Laurent Mathieu. Teams of gendarmes were also present to keep the inhabitants away and preserve “the intimacy of the corpse” according to the police.

The body of an “elderly” found

The recovered body matches that of a “Old person” according to the prosecutor of Périgueux, Solène Belaouar. But at this stage, he has not yet been identified. A investigation to find the cause of death has been opened. Investigators will now analyze the clothes and objects present on the victim’s body, such as jewelry for example. Anatomical details, such as the dentition, will also be observed in detail to try to identify the body. It could be a woman who has been missing for several days in Corrèze. But “it is not confirmed, it is one of the tracks considered”specifies the prosecutor of Périgueux.

To understand what happened, the investigators will also look for signs of beatings on the victim’s body.
