At the Republican conference in Milwaukee, USA, on Thursday, July 18, Donald Trump will deliver his very first speech since the assassination attempt he survived. Officially a presidential candidate, he has organized himself to recreate the Republican Party in his image.
“The greatest president in history, Donald J. Trump, is nominated as the Republican Party’s nominee.” These words are spoken by the candidate’s youngest son, Eric Trump. At his side, his wife Lara Trump, number 2 of the party, and his older brother Donald Junior, very influential adviser. The scene illustrates the stranglehold of the Trump family on Republican affairs, in a convention where even the granddaughter of the former president, barely 17 years old, is invited to speak on stage. And woe to those who are not considered sufficiently reverent. The leader of the Republicans in the Senate is booed by the crowd. The former head of the House of Representatives is deprived of a platform and intimidated in the middle of an interview. Donald Trump’s running mate is described by his opponents as a clone.
And if he returns to the White House, Donald Trump could also purge the administration, as recommended by Project 2025, a document written by the conservative organization Heritage Foundation. It plans to strengthen presidential power and replace 50,000 civil servants with Donald Trump loyalists. This project is supported by former members of the presidential team.
