Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign team claimed on Saturday, August 10, that it had suffered a hack, accusing “foreign sources” of leaking internal communications and a file on JD Vance, the former president’s running mate. The specialist media outlet Politico reported on Thursday that it had received emails containing information on the Republican’s campaign from a source who declined to be identified.

“These documents were illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States, with the intent of interfering in the 2024 election and sowing chaos in our democratic process.”Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said. He also cited an incident report released by Microsoft on Thursday that revealed Iranian hackers had “sent a phishing email in June to a senior presidential campaign official”.

The former president’s team is insinuating that Iran is behind the move. “The Iranians know that President Trump will end their reign of terror, just as he did during his first four years in the White House.”according to Steven Cheung.

In 2016, Democratic National Committee emails were also hacked, exposing internal communications involving Hillary Clinton, the party’s then-nominee to challenge Donald Trump. The billionaire, who won that year’s presidential election, was criticized for encouraging the data breach, which was attributed to Russia.
