He hoped to escape a trial in the middle of the presidential campaign. But Donald Trump will be tried criminally from April 15 in New York (United States), a judge decided on Monday March 25. This is a historic first for a former American president. At the Manhattan criminal court where the former White House tenant was summoned on Monday, Judge Juan Merchan decided that the case of payments to a pornographic film actress in 2016 would be judged on April 15.

“I don’t understand how we can have a trial in the middle of an election. It’s unfair”, protested the Republican candidate in the November election in front of the press, in his building on Wall Street. But the judge refused to again adjourn this criminal trial, which was initially scheduled to begin this Monday. In this case, the real estate tycoon is charged with 34 accounting frauds punishable by a maximum sentence of four years in prison in the most serious cases.

He is accused of having disguised the accounts of his real estate group Trump Organization to reimburse his former lawyer who became his sworn enemy, Michael Cohen, whom he had asked to pay $130,000 to pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels, just before the presidential election of 2016. Donald Trump denies having had sexual relations in 2006 with this woman, real name Stephanie Clifford, who allegedly received this sum to keep their affair quiet while the businessman was already remarried to Melania Trump.
