Donald Trump urges Republican lawmakers to oppose new aid to Ukraine

Without the support of conservative elected officials, most of whom are loyal to the billionaire, the text has no chance of being adopted by the House of Representatives.

Financial aid essential to kyiv’s war effort soon to be suspended? Former President of the United States Donald Trump on Monday, February 5, called on Republicans in Congress to oppose the agreement providing for an envelope of 60 billion dollars for kyiv. “Only an idiot or a radical left-wing Democrat would vote for this horrible bill”he said in a message published on his network, Truth Social.

The American Senate unveiled on Sunday evening a text, the result of long months of negotiations, which provides for aid to Ukraine, 14 billion dollars for Israel and a reform of the American migration system. “We need a separate bill on the migration issue, it must not be linked to aid to a foreign country in any way”decided Donald Trump, candidate for the Republican nomination for the presidential election in November.

To be adopted, this envelope must be approved in the Senate, then the House of Representatives. This legislative journey complicates things. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, is close to Donald Trump. As it stands, any vote in favor of the text is “stillborn”he estimated on Sunday. Without the support of Republicans in the House, most of them loyal to Donald Trump, the text cannot go anywhere.
