A symbolic return. US presidential candidate Donald Trump will hold a political rally at the site of his first assassination attempt, near Butler, Pennsylvania, his team announced on Wednesday, September 25. The event will take place on October 5, exactly one month before the November US presidential election, in which he is running against Kamala Harris.
Images of the attempted assassination of the 78-year-old Republican candidate went viral. Since the attack, a photo of Donald Trump, raising his fist after being shot in the ear, has become an emblem of the billionaire’s campaign. The alleged shooter was shot dead by law enforcement, and the incident ultimately led to the resignation of the head of the Secret Service, the elite unit responsible for protecting presidents and high-profile political figures.
Two months after these shootings, on September 15, Donald Trump appears to have escaped a new assassination attempt in Florida, while he was playing golf. A Secret Service agent spotted the barrel of a gun through the fence as the president was 300 to 500 yards away. A suspect was apprehended in connection withan FBI investigation into “alleged attempted murder.” The man is Ryan Routh, 58, who was charged on Wednesday, September 25.
