Donald Trump says he is targeted by the judicial inquiry into the assault on the Capitol

“I am a TARGET”. Donald Trump claims, Tuesday, July 18 in a post on his social network, to be personally targeted by the ongoing federal investigation into the assault on the Capitol. In a message published on Truth Social, the former president of the United States said he received, Sunday evening, “awful news” from his lawyers, having read a letter signed by the prosecutor in charge of this case, Jack Smith. In his message, Donald Trump describes the latter as “disturbs”.

The former president regrets having only “four tiny days” before his appearance before the grand jury. The prosecutor seems to follow the conclusions of the parliamentary commission which investigated this case. Before being dissolved at the start of the year by the new Republican majority, this commission had estimated thatDonald Trump should no longer be able to hold new public office after inciting his supporters to insurrection, on January 6, 2021 in Washington.

Crucial deadlines ahead for Donald Trump

The former president is not only worried in this case. The proceedings against him are increasing: his trial in the state secrets case is due to begin on August 14. Donald Trump has also already been charged by New York State justice for several accounting frauds, after payments made before the 2016 presidential election, with the aim of silencing the actress of pornographic films Stormy Daniels, who claimed having had an affair with the former president. This criminal trial should be organized at the beginning of 2024.

“This witch hunt is interference in elections and a complete and total militarization of law enforcement”, is indignant Tuesday, in capital letters, the former president. Also in his message published on Truth Social, Donald Trump says he is convinced of being targeted because of the upcoming presidential election, for which he is a candidate.
