In 2020, the former US president’s refusal to acknowledge defeat led to one of the worst political crises in US history, including the invasion of the Capitol by his supporters.
Donald Trump continues to cultivate ambiguity. A little over four months before the American presidential election on November 5, the former American president debated on the night of Thursday June 27 to Friday June 28 on CNN against Joe Biden, his successor. During this highly anticipated duel, and organized in an unprecedented manner, the Republican Party candidate notably set his conditions concerning the outcome of the vote.
At the question “Will you recognize the outcome of the election no matter who wins?”Donald Trump initially deflected the question before being questioned again on the subject. “Yes or no, please?” insisted CNN journalist Dana Bash. “If the election is fair, legal and valid, absolutelythe Republican candidate responded. I would have preferred to accept [le résultat de 2020] but the fraud and everything else was mind-blowing!”

He notably called for “stop counting” votes, accusing the Democratic Party of rigging the election nationwide. A distrust which led his supporters to carry out several violent actions, including the invasion of the Capitol, seat of the American Congress, on January 6, 2021.
After once again raising hypothetical fraud, one of his favorite campaign themes, Donald Trump assured that he would prefer “to be somewhere else, in a beautiful place”rather than re-enter the presidential race. “I wasn’t really going to introduce myself until I saw the horrible job he [Joe Biden] did. He is destroying our country.”he said.
Discreet, even withdrawn, during the debate, Joe Biden reacted strongly to this accusation. “We will see your figures when the election is over”he replied. “You’re a crybaby. When you lost the first time, you called out classes [de justice] Through the whole Country, recalled the outgoing president. No court in the United States, local or state, has ruled in your favor, but you continued to lie.”
After calling his opponent “whiner” A second time, provoking a raised eyebrow from Donald Trump, Joe Biden accused him of “not being able to accept” the defeat. “Something exploded inside you when you lost last time.”the Democrat said just before the final part of the debate.
