Crown announced today that the book titled Made Up, But Still True would be released on November 12, when the Canadian-American actor turns 89.

Donald Sutherland, a major figure in the new Hollywood of the 1970s who has continued to work ever since, has long been considered one of the best actors never to be nominated for an Oscar. However, he received an honorary Oscar for his career in 2017. He also won an Emmy and two Golden Globes.

Made Up, But Still True will be his first work as an author.

Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Sutherland barely survived a series of childhood illnesses, including infantile paralysis, rheumatoid fever and spinal meningitis.

He talks about these struggles in the book, as well as his burgeoning teenage sexuality and love of theater. He began acting in films in the early 1960s.

Sutherland broke through in Hollywood with a small role in the 1967 World War II classic, The Dirty Dozen (Twelve bastards), and stood out in the lead role of Hawkeye Pierce in Mr. AS H.by Robert Altman.

He has worked with filmmakers such as Nicolas Roeg in Don’t Look Now (Don’t turn around) and Federico Fellini in Fellini’s Casanova (Fellini’s Casanova). And he appeared just as often in more popular films, playing a wacky tank commander in Kelly’s Heroes (Gold for the brave) or a demented arsonist in Backdraft (Firefighters on alert). He also played an authoritarian president in the films of the series Hunger Games.

Some of Sutherland’s five children are also actors, including Kiefer Sutherland, the series’ lead actor 24.
