Dominique Pelicot, the main accused in the Mazan rape trial, should finally be present at the hearing on Tuesday, September 17. He had been absent for medical reasons for eight days.

Gisèle Pelicot, drugged by her husband and raped by men he recruited on the internet, has become the symbol of the fight against sexual violence. This Monday, September 16, she thanked her supporters, saying “deeply touched”. “Thanks to all of you, I have the strength to fight this fight to the end”she added.

In the morning, Dominique Pelicot, her ex-husband, was still not present in the dock. He is reportedly suffering from a kidney infection.

Pending a medical examination, the hearing was suspended until Tuesday. “If this expert report concluded that this trial cannot continue due to a delay in the care of Dominique Pelicot, we would truly be in a situation (…) of scandal”declared Mr. Stéphane Babonneau, lawyer for the civil party.

In the evening, Dominique Pelicot’s lawyer announced that the expert report concluded that he was fit to appear on Tuesday.
