The main accused of the Mazan rapes is back this Tuesday, September 17, after a week of absence, before the Criminal Court of Vaucluse in Avignon. “I am a rapist,” affirmed Dominique Pelicot.
After health problems disrupted the trial, which opened on September 2, Dominique Pelicot finally appeared before the Vaucluse criminal court in Avignon on Tuesday, September 17. Aged 71, he is accused of having drugged and orchestrated rapes of his wife for ten years by recruiting dozens of men on the internet.
As soon as he spoke, Dominique Pelicot acknowledged the facts. “I acknowledge the facts in their entirety”before adding “I am a rapist” like the co-accused “in this room”he says. Gisèle Pelicot “didn’t deserve this”says her ex-husband. Drugged without her knowledge by her husband with a powerful anxiolytic hidden in her food, Gisèle Pelicot was unconscious at the time of the events. Since the discovery of two photos of her daughter in November 2020, the latter is convinced that she was drugged and perhaps even sexually assaulted by her father, or even by strangers.
