Dominique Anglade wants the economy to be the central issue of the elections

Liberal leader Dominique Anglade launched her campaign on Sunday, calling for the economy to be the issue that determines the outcome of the October 3 election.

“I’m going to challenge François Legault on the economy. The economy is going to be the question of the ballot box, ”she said, a few minutes after the start of the electoral campaign.

Mme Anglade spoke of the labor shortage which causes a lack of teachers and forces entrepreneurs to close their businesses, as well as inflation.

“We have several families who are not able to make ends meet, who have to decide between paying the rent or buying food,” she said. This is not acceptable and we need concrete decisions. »

Over the past few years, the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) has succeeded in extracting the exclusivity of the theme of the economy from the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ).

The PLQ announced on Saturday that former finance minister Carlos Leitao would be the president of the electoral campaign.

Sunday, M.me Anglade hinted that we should not expect the announcement of new candidates with an economic profile. She underlined the state of the forces in presence within her party currently.

“The economic team is very full, I would tell you,” she said, recalling that she herself was Minister of the Economy in the Couillard government.

By concluding the parliamentary work in June, Mr. Legault had also expressed the wish to focus his message on the economy.

Mme Anglade rejected the economic approach of the CAQ leader.

“If he wanted to put the economy front and center, that’s certainly not what he’s done for the past four years,” she said.
