Dominican Republic | Machinery sent from Val-d’Or rescues two trapped miners

(Ottawa) Defense Minister Anita Anand announced that two miners trapped underground in the Dominican Republic for ten days have been rescued with the help of specialized equipment sent from Val-d’Or.

In a message posted on Twitter, Minister Anand indicated that the Royal Canadian Air Force had transported equipment provided by a Quebec company to Santo Domingo following a request for assistance from the Dominican government.

The two miners employed by the Dominican Mining Corporation, known as Cormidom, had been stuck underground since July 31.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic on Saturday, Canada was to send a mining excavation system including machinery, tools and all kinds of rescue devices.

Also according to the press release, the equipment was provided by Machines Roger International. A company based in Val-d’Or.

In her Twitter post, Minister Anand thanked Royal Canadian Air Force personnel for their work in the mission. The plane carrying the equipment landed in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
