Domestic Violence Allegations | “In the absence of evidence”, the ATP clears Alexander Zverev

(London) Germany’s Alexander Zverev will not face disciplinary action following an investigation into allegations of domestic violence due to a “lack of evidence” to support it, the tennis circuit has said male professional tuesday.

The ATP launched an investigation in October 2021 after Zverev’s ex-girlfriend, Olya Sharypova, accused the 2020 US Open runner-up of assaulting her.

“In the absence of reliable evidence and direct witnesses to the incident, and under the contradictory statements of Sharypova, Zverev and other interviewees, the investigation was unable to substantiate the allegations of aggression,” the ATP said in a statement.

Zverev, who is 25 and won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, has always denied the allegations. It currently points to 14e world rank.

Although no disciplinary action has been imposed, the ATP has indicated that it may reopen the case “if new evidence comes to light, or if legal proceedings reveal that the rules of the ATP have been flouted”. .
