(Miami) Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has not been given the green light to resume football-related activities and will have to miss Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
Tagovailoa remains under the NFL’s concussion protocol, head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday.
The Dolphins will turn their offense to rookie Skylar Thompson for their third game against the Bills this season. He will be assisted by Teddy Bridgewater, who is recovering from a dislocation of the little finger.
McDaniel was unsure whether Tagovailoa would be traveling with the team this weekend, but stressed that the latter had not experienced any setbacks in his fitness. However, several factors keep him out of the field for an indefinite period.
After receiving a second concussion diagnosis this season in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa has missed the Dolphins’ last two games.
He had missed two games earlier this season after his first official concussion in Week 4, four days after being stunned by a tackle, prompting the NFL to change its concussion protocol.
McDaniel wouldn’t discuss any concerns about Tagovailoa’s long-term health.
