Dollard-des-Ormeaux | Three injured in shooting, BEI in charge of investigation

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) will attempt to clarify the circumstances of an intense shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, in the West Island of Montreal, during which three men were seriously injured.

The gunfire reportedly began around 8 p.m. at the corner of De Salaberry Boulevard and Davignon Street, according to Quebecor media, which reported that some witnesses heard between 30 and 40 shots.

An exchange of gunfire reportedly took place between police officers and a suspect in a vehicle, according to a witness quoted by The Montreal Journal.

A large security perimeter was established on site where a command post could be seen on Sunday evening.

At 8:50 p.m., the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) indicated that it was “intervening” and did not provide further details until late in the evening.

The police force finally confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of this event had been entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec and the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI).

The latter is mobilized when a person, other than a police officer on duty, dies, suffers a serious injury or is injured by a firearm during a police intervention.
