Theodore Gliga, 30, remained standing, impassive, in the accused box when judge Jean-Jacques Gagné ratified his sentence Thursday morning at the Montreal courthouse.

“I am very disappointed with the sentence, it is not enough to take someone’s life and it will not bring me back Rance [Sullivan] “, said to Newspaper the ex-girlfriend of the accused, Sarah Piché-Sénécal.

The accused pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and assault with a weapon last January. He thus avoided a trial for second degree murder.

This is because Gliga was having trouble digesting her separation from her ex. A year after their breakup, they still shared custody of their dog, Molly.

On September 30, 2022 in the early morning, Gliga went to his ex’s apartment because he wanted to “walk their dog.”

Gliga then broke her conditions of release after accusations in a domestic violence case against her, including that of not approaching him.

At this moment, Mme Piché-Sénécal was at home with her new boyfriend, Rance Sullivan, and her roommate. They had consumed drugs and alcohol.

Conflict that escalates

As soon as Gliga arrived, a conflict began over custody of the then five-year-old Labrador.

M’s friendme Piché-Sénécal then hit the accused’s head against the wall several times.

Gliga left the scene with Molly, telling her ex that she would “never see the dog again.”

He was soon chased by Rance Sullivan and his friend. The fight started again, but this time the accused responded by superficially stabbing his ex’s friend.

The victim continued to follow Gliga, who started shouting “help” while running on rue Jeanne-Mance, in Mile-End.

A new scuffle then took place, and the accused stabbed the victim once in the ribs. This was fatal, his death having been noted on the spot.

“He did not want to hurt the victim and did not know that he had in fact injured her while he was fleeing,” it was stated in the agreed summary of facts read in the courtroom.

Gliga admits, however, that he “did not act in self-defense.”

Other files

Theodore Gliga also received three months in prison for making threats to Mme Piché-Sénécal.

This is because in 2021, the accused had frantically called and texted his ex. Then in a state of crisis, he told her on the line that he was going to kill her.

He also received six months in prison for throwing plates and glasses in his roommate’s face.

Gliga has seven and a half years left in the penitentiary to serve for all of his cases, due to preventive detention.
