Does the smartphone make you rude?

There is considerable concern about smartphone misuse among some adolescents and young adults. But what about the behavior of some mature adults? Imagine (once again) the following scene, which is certainly not unique: a couple of fifty-year-old tourists sit at the table next to mine, on the terrace of a Nice restaurant. As soon as their meal is served, both simultaneously take out their smartphone to broadcast live, to friends I presume, what they are about to eat. It’s a real reality show, with supporting comments and gesticulations. I probably participated in the report, the enthusiastic lady having pointed her camera for a moment in my direction.

I admit I’ve had worse vacations because of smartphones. I had a lot of difficulty making my way to the Colosseum in Rome through a swarm of tourists, all with their selfie stick, which they wielded like swords. And we will agree that transmitting live images of your vacation to your parents and friends is certainly less tedious than the slide viewing sessions of the past.
