While the absence of Queen Elizabeth II from the throne speech revives speculation about her state of health and her abdication, the author and specialist in the British monarchy Jean Des Cars returns to the future of the crown, within 23 hours of Franceinfo.

Author of two biographical works on Elizabeth II published by Perrin, Jean des Cars wants to be reassuring about the reasons which led the queen to give up the speech from the throne on Tuesday May 10: “She believes that she is not going to impose a degraded image on her subjects. Obviously there is the weight of the years, the weight of the suffering, the pain of the loss of Prince Philip”. The author points out that this is only the third time that the queen has missed such an appointment, the other failures being due to her pregnancies.

Is this the beginning of the regency for Charles ? For Jean Des Cars, even if everything is prepared, he remains convinced that she will never abdicate. “The word abdication is a nightmare for her, it’s what ruined the life of her family”, recalls the author. After the abdication of Edward VIII, Princess Elizabeth had become heir to the throne, in 1936, at the age of 10. Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate, beginning of June its platinum jubilee which marks 70 years of reign, a record ever hit. Will the Queen be there? “I hope so for the British”concludes Jean Des Cars.
