Gérald Darmanin indicated on Sunday July 24 that he wanted to expel an individual of foreign origin, suspected of being involved in the attack on police officers in Lyon, in the Guillotière district. If it was put “harmless”, the Minister of the Interior maintained his decision because this man is known, according to him, for several acts of delinquency. An announcement that provoked many reactions, particularly from elected environmentalists: they accuse the minister of “hit the far right” and flouting the separation of powers.
A foreigner may be expelled, on the decision of the prefect or the Minister of the Interior, in very serious situations linked to State security: for example, a threat of an attack or for reasons linked to the protection of public order. In this specific case, the man concerned is, according to the entourage of the Minister of the Interior, known for several acts of delinquency. He has been implicated seven times since last year for theft, violence, threats against persons holding public authority and a drug-related case.
Still according to the entourage of Gérald Darmanin, this man is also the subject of an obligation to leave French territory, five months ago. A measure that has so far not been applied. He was therefore placed in an administrative detention center on Sunday. A request for a pass was, according to our information, sent Monday, July 25 to Algeria, to organize his deportation to this country as quickly as possible.
