More than 7 million homes would be thermal sieves in France. This figure has increased following a new method of calculation. This should encourage owners to renovate their properties. Journalist Sandrine Feydel, present on the set of 19/20, Tuesday July 26, takes stock.
In France, 7.2 million homes would be considered thermal sieves. “These are classified F and G dwellings following diagnoses, they are the most energy-consuming. All dwellings are concerned”, details journalist Sandrine Feydel, present on the set of 19/20, Tuesday July 26. Main residences are the most affected, with 5.2 million homes. Since the last estimate, 400,000 additional residences are considered thermal strainers.
“This is the consequence of a calculation method that changed last year. Before, we just estimated the energy consumption of housing. Today, we add greenhouse gas emissions”, explains Sandrine Feydel. From now on, the heating, the production of hot water, the lighting and the VMC are taken into account in the calculation. These ratings should encourage owners to carry out renovations. The building represents 120 million tonnes of greenhouse gases per year, or 20% of national emissions.
