Is eating organically grown fruits and vegetables better for your health? The True or False team looked into the question.

Eating organic regularly would reduce the risk of cancer, some Internet users are convinced. There is a study on organic food and the reduction in the risk of cancer, published in 2018. It was carried out, among others, by researchers from INRA and Inserm. For 4 and a half years, nearly 69,000 people responded daily to questionnaires about their diet. Other factors were taken into account: alcohol consumption, smoking, education level and income.

Further research is needed

“A 25% reduction in cancer risk was observed among ‘regular’ consumers of organic foods compared to more occasional consumers”, explains the study. The risk reduction is significant for breast cancer and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. One explanation would be the absence of pesticides in organic products. These fruits and vegetables produce more antioxidants, which have positive effects on our health. But for the National Cancer Institute, this study must still be confirmed by other research.
