Is bulk really cheaper? The point on the question on the set of 13 Hours, Tuesday April 18, with the journalist Chloé Tixier.
Bulk, an economical solution? It all depends on the products and brands, says journalist Chloé Tixier on the 13 Hours set. “A retail expert recently made a statement in a hypermarket. For the private label tea packet, the price per kilo was 17.33 euros, for the bulk, 16.47 euros”, she illustrates. But beware, each brand has its own policy.
Compare prices per kilo
On organic products, bulk is also often cheaper, according to a study of 60 million consumers. “For example, organic liquid Marseille soap cost 22% less in bulk, the same for organic almonds, -15%”, she continues. On the other hand, long white rice in bulk was more expensive (+ 84%), as was laundry in bulk (+ 54%). The journalist therefore recommends “compare prices per kilo for each product”. As a reminder, the French throw away 7 kg of food every year, the equivalent of 100 euros put in the trash.
