(Washington) The congressional committee investigating the Capitol storming has in its possession a series of papers torn up by Donald Trump when he was in the White House, revealed the washington post.

These documents come from the National Archives, responsible for keeping all the working documents of a president after he leaves the White House.

“Among the presidential documents received by the National Archives were paper documents that had been torn up by former President Trump,” the institution confirmed in a statement.

Some sheets of paper had been “glued back together with tape” by “White House records management officials,” they said. Others left as is.

According to washington postthese documents are part of more than 700 pages transmitted by the National Archives to the parliamentary committee which seeks to shed light on the responsibility of Donald Trump in the attack on Congress by his supporters, on January 6, 2021.

Asked by AFP, the so-called “January 6” commission refused to say which specific documents it had in its possession and which specifically had been torn up.

But she announced in mid-January that she had already begun to receive certain documents “that the former president had hoped to keep hidden”.

Among the 700 pages of archives received, there are, among other things, the lists of people who visited the former American president or who called him on January 6, 2021, as well as notes taken during these exchanges.

At the same time, the parliamentary commission composed of a majority of elected Democrats is seeking to hear several relatives of the Republican billionaire. Some of them received subpoenas, others like Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, were simply asked to testify.

The group of elected officials wants at all costs to publish its conclusions before the midterm elections, in less than a year, during which the Republicans could regain control of the House and bury its work.
