A documentary about a cyber fraud targeting fans of Calgary pop duo Tegan and Sara will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara is one of 43 feature films spanning more than 40 countries in TIFF’s Centerpiece program, formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema.
Other major titles include: Presence Steven Soderbergh’s supernatural film, seen from a ghost’s perspective, starring Lucy Liu and Julia Fox.
Pimpinero: Blood and Oil is a thriller about gasoline traffickers on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, starring Juanes, a Colombian singer who has collaborated at times with Nelly Furtado.
Winnipeg’s Matthew Rankin returns to TIFF with his latest film Universal Languagea quirky homage to Iranian cinema set in his hometown. It’s Rankin’s return to the festival after his film The Twentieth Century of 2019 won the award for the first Canadian feature film.
Other Canadian titles include: The Mother and the Bear by Johnny Ma, Sweet Angel Baby by Melanie Oates and the romantic comedy Matt and Mara by Kazik Radwanski, which stars the creator of BlackBerryMatt Johnson.
TIFF runs from September 5 to 15.
