A living space hosting Doctors Without Borders (MSF) staff was hit by a shell fire, which did not explode, on the morning of Tuesday January 9 in Khan Younes in the south of the Gaza Strip, killing a woman. five-year-old child and injuring three other people, the international editorial staff of Radio France learned on Wednesday.

The building accommodated around a hundred people. This is a large party hall rented by MSF in Khan Younes, to house Palestinian staff and families who found themselves without housing in the first weeks of the war. The bombing took place in the morning. He pierced a wall of the building.

The origin of the shot unknown

At this time, the origin of this shot is not known. However, according to MSF emergency manager Michel Lacharité, the building “was reported to the Israeli authorities” but “for the moment, we do not know if he was targeted or if it is collateral damage”. “What we observed on this shell which did not explode is that there are writings in Hebrew so everything leads us to believe that this shell came from the Israeli defense forces”.

Doctors Without Borders says it has asked Israeli authorities “to explain what happened” and say “wait for information on this incident”. Last weekend, MSF had to evacuate a hospital in the center of the enclave because of the fighting. A little less than two months ago, two people died in a convoy of MSF-branded vehicles that were targeted in Gaza City.
