Faced with a severe problem of understaffing, the emergency services are overwhelmed. A phenomenon accentuated by the resumption of the Covid-19 epidemic and the heat wave. A team from France Télévisions followed a doctor during his tour, Tuesday, July 19, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.

In his car in the colors of SOS doctors, Dr. Pascal Chansard crisscrosses the streets of Paris, and the inner suburbs. With 40 ° C, Tuesday July 19, he received many calls. Direction, first of all, the 18th arrondissement of Paris. “For the past few days, we have seen an increase in pathologies due to heat. Not just people who have heatstroke, but also urinary tract infections, people who are a little dehydrated, or fevers”he confides.

The patient is a 95 year old lady. “I can’t stand”, she says. It is 30°C in her apartment, but she shows no signs of dehydration. For safety, the doctor chooses to have her hospitalized. Heat affects organisms harshly. “The heat wave is a destabilizing factor, and therefore in fragile people, it destabilizes their chronic pathologies”, explains the doctor. SOS Médecins carried out 800 interventions in Paris and the inner suburbs on Tuesday July 19, or 10 to 15% more than usual.
