“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”: Lost in Spacetime

When Kevin Feige, CEO of Marvel Studios and lead creator and producer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), let it be known that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (VF of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) would be more of a horror movie than a superhero movie, Sam Raimi pricked up his ears. Because the horror, the director of the cult trilogy evil Dead (1981-1993) eats it. And because he also knows superheroes very well, he who was at the helm of the trilogy Spiderman (2002-2007). In short, with this project, the proverbial cup of tea would be full to the brim for him.

“I was delighted that Kevin contacted me to discuss the possibility of me directing the feature film. I was able to go back to those horror movies that I made in my youth and everything that I learned from making them — to create suspense, to tickle the audience, to scare them — and I applied everything that here, ”said Sam Raimi, Sunday, during a videoconference bringing together the main actors and craftsmen of the production.

The director, whose fans were firmly bored (Oz the Magnificent dates from 2013 and his last horror film, To hellfrom 2009), thus took the controls of the second feature film devoted to the master of the mystical arts, which, this time, penetrates into the multiverse that the MCU has been busy deploying for years.

The series Wanda Vision, Loki, And if… ? as well as, on the big screen, three of the four avengers (Age of Ultron, infinity war and Final phase) and Doctor Strange cracked the barrier between the different realities. In the recent Spiderman. Without returnthe breach opened due to a spell cast by the Magician. The Multiverse of Madness follows, a few months later, the consequences of this gesture. We are witnessing the explosion of the border between the alternate dimensions where different versions of the Marvel characters evolve.

To repair the damage, the person responsible for the damage. Benedict Cumberbatch therefore resumes the cape of Doctor Strange, which he has already worn six times for this role which allowed him “to have the freedom and the means to support more modest projects. And then, as such, Strange is a complex character who is fun and rewarding to play,” he asserted.

Allies and/or adversaries of the Magician in this rescue mission: Wong, now Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Wong); Wanda Maximoff, who, after the events in Wanda Vision, “now clearly knows who she is and has embraced her Scarlet Witch identity”, says Elizabeth Olsen, interpreter of the all-powerful character in connection with Chaos Magic; and America Chavez, who possesses the power to create portals that allow travel across worlds, played by Xochitl Gomez (The Baby-Sitters Club).

A newcomer, whose initiation into the MCU was for better and for worse. The best being, for example, to learn by observing “Lizzie [Olsen] when she was preparing, her way of entering the moment a few minutes before performing a complex scene”. And the worst being the trolls who blamed him for anything and everything. That her complexion was too pale to embody the “real” America Chavez, or that her character is part of the LGBTQ+ community.

“It is important that these films present the world as it is. This aspect of the character comes from comics, which we have always wanted to adapt as faithfully as possible”, noted Kevin Feige. As for the young actress, she was first shaken by “these waves of anonymous hatred”, before regaining her footing: “It was a learning curve through which I understood that all that did not count, that I am strong and that I must move forward without letting myself be slowed down by such things,” she said in an interview with the To have to with Benedict Wong. Which adds: “She auditioned at 13, she joined the team at 14 and she just turned 16. She does her job, she plays a role and tells a story. She deserves nothing less than admiration. So be nice! When the Sorcerer Supreme speaks, better listen.
