Shopping in a supermarket may soon take less time. Several brands are developing an automatic checkout system, there is no longer even a need to scan the items.
Is automatic article scanning the future of mass distribution? Thanks to intelligent shelves of mini-markets full of cameras, there is no longer any need to go to the checkout and therefore to wait. No need to look for cashiers in a store due to open Thursday, November 25: thes terminals automatically detect items placed in a basket.
“I walked over to the tablet and there you are, the items in my basket” appeared on the screen, shows Élodie Perthuisot, executive director of e-commerce at Carrefour. Nothing was taken out of its bag and nothing was scanned. There is also no need for a subscription, nor to present your identity at the reception. The 60 cameras, more than one per square meter, identify each customer in real time and record the items taken from the shelves.
