This is at least the political photo wanted for this weekend. Former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and the new Prime Minister ELisabeth Borne, side by side in Calvados in Normandy. The two appear together alongside traders to offer the snapshot of a family – politics – united.
>> Legislative: follow the news of the election
After the coffee on the terrace, morning stroll for the two Prime Ministers, who do not hesitate to smile in the streets of Vire, which is part of the 6th district of Calvados: “This is the famous Norman sun. It’s coming, you just have to wait a bit”kindly mocks the mayor of Le Havre, EDouard Philip.
In each shop, shopkeepers widen their eyes as they pass. “In a weekvYou managed to nab two prime ministers!“, still launches Édouard Philippe, who, on this Norman land, occupies the space jokes, photos, aside with passers-by. The former Prime Minister is very comfortable. Even when he is offered an unusual activity: “In any case, I didn’t get up thinking that I would take tickets for a duck race, but why not?“
By playing on conviviality, supporting bursts of laughter, the leader of the Horizons party, who is cultivating his image as a free man, and the Prime Minister want to send a message of unity a week before the legislative elections. “It’s an alliance on which we basically agree. It is not an alliance to share ridings. We’re really talking about the project”slips Elisabeth Borne, further back, thus ruling out any division.
But what will happen over the months, with a view to 2027? Will the former head of government then become a rebel and will he be able to weaken the balance within the movement of the current majority? Édouard Philippe wants to reassure: “Do you think I look like a slinger?he jokes. I am a ployal partner and loyal support. It’s really a friendly visit and a political visit too, it’s not completely incompatible. We both want, and with the majority as a whole, to give the President of the Republic a stable and solid majority.“
Strong in defending the president’s line, as does ELisabeth Borne. After the announcement in the press by Emmanuel Macron of a National Council for Refoundation. “It’s time to share with all French people, with the living forces, the challenges that are before us and also to project ourselves on the objectives we want for the country, such as full employment, carbon neutrality and more ‘equal opportunities. But all this must be discussed with all the actors“, she pleads.
A call for general mobilization which comes a little late, hence the usefulness of appearing alongside the former Prime Minister, now the favorite political figure of the French.
