Genesis
A Franco-Algerian actor with a 16-year career, Tahar Rahim comes from a modest family of ten children from Oran, Algeria. From his adolescence in Belfort, he was passionate about the dark rooms of cinemas. He pursued film studies at Paul-Valéry University in Montpellier and filmed the same year, in 2005, in his first documentary. Tahar the studentwhere he embodies his own role.

Multi-awarded, he receives for the film a prophet (2009) by Jacques Audiard the prize for the best European actor in 2009, the Lumière prize for the best actor in 2010 but above all a double César (for the best French hope and the best actor) This was Tahar’s first major role, that which will ensure him a certain fame.

An actor known all over the world

Subsequently, the actor began an international career: he played the role of a prince in The Eagle of the Ninth Legion (2011) accompanied by Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell, the role of serial killer Charles Sobhraj in the series The snake on Netflix, or that of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a detainee at the Guantánamo camp in Found Guilty (2021).
During all these years, Tahar Rahim continues to play in French productions: The Free Men by Ismaël Ferroukhi (2011), The past by Asghar Farhadi (2013), Samba (2014), The Anarchists (2014), The Eddy (2020). For all of his roles, he will be named Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2021.
In June 2022, it is announced in one of Marvel’s upcoming films, Madame Web.
The president of the 48th Cesar ceremony
After such a career, we immediately understand why Tahar Rahim is the president of the 48th edition of the Césars. The Académie des César and Canal + present him as an actor who “led his career with finesse, moving towards rich, diverse and complex characters, and new experiences”. And then, the actor also knows behind the scenes of these ceremonies: he has already been a member of the jury of the Deauville Asian Film Festival in 2012, of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and 2021 and of the jury of the International Film Festival. of Marrakesh in 2022.

On the personal side, Tahar Rahim has been married to actress Leïla Bekhti since 2010. Happy parents of three children, the two actors met on the set of the film a prophet. A film that brings him luck!
