On July 26, employees of the glass manufacturer Duralex became the owners of their company. A production cooperative company (Scop) was created for this purpose. Are there many Scops in France? Do they work?
A production cooperative company (Scop) was created at the end of last July after the employees of the Duralex company became its owners. Currently, there are 4,495 Scop in France. “It’s a stable figure but it’s still a drop in the ocean among the 4 million companies that exist in France.”said journalist Chloé Tixier. These companies employ 84,294 employees. According to the latest figures, 79% of these cooperative companies are still active 5 years after their start, which is better than traditional companies.
This is the case in particular for SCOPTI, near Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), which makes tea and infusions. They are the former employees of Fralib. They made headlines in 2010 with 1,336 days of occupation of their factory which was threatened with closure. A SCOP was finally born and the results are there. They have just celebrated their 10th anniversary. “She hopes to reach 4.5 million euros in turnover this year, which would be the best result for the SCOP since its creation.”concluded Chloé Tixier.
