The endless discussions on health funding, caught between Quebec’s sovereignty over this jurisdiction and the accountability demanded by Ottawa on the results, would not last long if we did better.
Imagine better access to care and better efficiency of the health network as a whole in Quebec. We would have shown long ago that Quebec is doing well and that it has no lessons or conditions to learn from Ottawa.
But there. Quebec has had an unenviable reputation in health for a long time, even before the pandemic. And the significant financial transfers made by Ottawa to Quebec in the last 20 years have still not allowed access to care for all.
It is only by improving the quantity, quality and accessibility of the care that we offer to the Quebec population that we will be able to push back the persistent desires of Ottawa in terms of health.
