Djokovic and Nadal headlining at Wimbledon

This time Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are not in the same half of the table. The Wimbledon tournament announced its top seeds on Tuesday, and the Serbian and Spaniard are the No.oh1 and noh2 in the men’s draw due to the absence of Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.

Medvedev, at the top of the table, cannot participate in the London tournament due to the decision of the All England Club not to allow players from Russia or Belarus to participate in the event in 2022 following the invasion of the ‘Ukraine. Zverev, noh 2 in the world, is out with an ankle injury.

As a result, Djokovic and Nadal inherit the top two seeds and cannot meet before the final. That wasn’t the case at Roland Garros last month, when Nadal overcame Djokovic in the quarter-finals to then advance to win a 22e Grand Slam title, a record for men.

Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime is ranked sixth, just ahead of Pole Hubert Hukacz, winner of Medvedev in the final in Halle on Sunday. Denis Shapovalov, who has lost five consecutive games since beating Nadal in Rome, is ranked 13e rank.

There will be a 23-time Grand Slam champion in the women’s draw in Serena Williams, but she won’t be seeded.

The draw is scheduled for Friday and the tournament begins on Monday.

Świątek in the lead

Since 2021, the men’s and women’s singles seeds are established according to the world ranking.

Williams hasn’t played competitively since dropping out in her first-round match at Wimbledon last year. She received an invite to the singles tournament so she could face anyone in the first round.

Polish Iga Świątek, noh 1 in the world, is the first seed in the women’s draw.

Recall that Leylah Fernandez will not be at Wimbledon due to a right foot injury. The Lavalloise is aiming for a return to play at the Washington tournament in early August.
