It is a device that will change the lives of women who raise their children alone and who sometimes have to fight to obtain payment of child support. From Monday March 1, for all divorces pronounced by a judge, the Family Allowance Fund will be responsible for paying this pension.

Between two divorced parents, the payment of child support is now automatic. It is provided by the Family Allowance Fund (Caf). A way to prevent non-payments, which are still a problem today for almost a third of cases. The system had been tested for a year and a half.

From now on, as soon as the divorce is pronounced by a judge, the debtor parent will pay the pension to the Caf, which will transmit the money to the other parent, who is very often the mother. In the event of non-payment, the latter will receive a family support allowance of 116 euros per month and per child. The Caf is authorized to seek the unpaid money as far as the employer of the unscrupulous parent. For associations defending women’s rights, these procedures are often very long. The device applies to new divorce proceedings before the judge, or 35,000 cases.
