New Caledonia is home to corals that divers observe with ultraviolet lamps. A phenomenon that allows you to admire species that become fluorescent.
At the Baie des Citrons, in Nouméa (New Caledonia)the sun will soon set. It’s time for Raphaëlle and Anthony to stay awake. “We’re going to try to find phosphorescent, fluorescent corals and so we’re going to explore for an hour and a half tonight”reports Raphaëlle Russe, diver. Thanks to their ultraviolet beam, they can observe a fluorescent anthology.
Raphaëlle and Anthony focus on finding the right beam distance, the stability to film one of nature’s best kept secrets underwater. “Everything looks black and only certain things look green, orange or red. But otherwise we see nothing else. Fish, we don’t see them, turtles, we don’t see them, sea urchins, we don’t see them not”, testifies Raphaëlle Russe.
