With its 26 kilometers of rocks and forests, and its gorges reaching 750 meters deep, the Blyde River canyon in South Africa captivates tourists. Every year, more than a million visitors come to admire it.
It took millions of years to shape these landscapes: steep, dizzying cliffs, covered with thick jungle. This canyon, the greenest in the world, is located in South Africa and has 26 kilometers of intertwined rocks and forests. Its immensity leaves tourists speechless. The Blyde River Canyon is “the third largest in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States and that of Namibia”specifies guide Thabelo Sekame.
More than a million visitors per year
Thabelo Sekame was born in these mountains, he knows all their secrets. “We are at an altitude of 1,944 meters. Here, we feel like we are in a little paradise”, he tells the 13 Hours teams. Over time, water and wind have hollowed out the stone and carved gorges up to 750 meters deep. “What I like here is that we are alone in the world. It’s so pure, so preserved”, wonders a visiting Dutch tourist. A spectacular panorama, which some tourists, in search of thrills, prefer to explore up close. The Blyde River Canyon attracts more than a million visitors each year.
