(Paris) Canadian diver Caeli McKay qualified for the semi-finals of the individual 10-metre platform event on Monday at the Paris Olympics, while her compatriot Kate Miller saw her run come to an end after the preliminaries.
McKay of Calgary finished third in the preliminaries with a score of 324.90 over five jumps. Miller of Ottawa finished in 20e position with 266.30 points, as the top 18 divers advanced to the semi-final, which will take place later on Monday.
Unsurprisingly, China’s Hongchan Quan (421.25) and Yuxi Chen (382.15) dominated the preliminaries.
China won seven of eight diving gold medals at the Tokyo Games three years ago. It is aiming for a clean sweep in the French capital and is 4-for-4 so far at the Paris Games.
McKay and Miller finished fourth in the synchronized 10-meter platform event last Wednesday.
Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens brought Canada a bronze medal in the men’s synchronized 10-metre platform event last Monday at the Paris Games.
Canada won only one medal in diving at the Tokyo Games, that won by Quebecers Jennifer Abel and Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu in the 3m synchro springboard.
