Tuesday March 26, the 13 Heures heads for Italy, for an immersion in the fascinating world of the oceans with Alessandro Marcchi, who spends his daily life close to sharks.

The Genoa Aquarium (Italy) is one of the largest in Europe. Every year, millions of visitors flock there to admire 400,000 species, including piranhas, caimans and sharks of all kinds. Three times a week, Alessandro Marcchi, aquariologist, comes to bring them food. Just a few centimeters from the sharks, the trainer must be extra vigilant.

Sharks, a sensitive species

Once a week, the aquariologists come down to clean the tank among the 11 sharks. They have no special protection but must never be alone. Alessandro has been diving for 26 years but always takes precautions. “Sharks have the ability to feel every little electrical discharge produced by our muscles. (…) So you have to be calm for them to stay calm”, he explains. Behind the glass, the audience can’t believe it. And aquariologists can’t help but see sharks as a fragile and endangered species.
